Algebra II Syllabus

Welcome to Algebra 2. I am very excited to meet everyone. My name is Ms. Jay and I will be your Algebra 2 teacher this year.

Course Overview:

Algebra 2 builds upon the foundational concepts learned in Algebra 1 and Geometry, delving deeper into advanced algebraic techniques and their applications in various fields.

Key Topics:

• Polynomials: Students will explore in-depth operations with polynomials, including factoring, graphing, and solving polynomial equations.
 • Rational Expressions and Equations: Students will learn to manipulate and simplify rational expressions, solve rational equations, and graph rational functions.
• Radical Expressions and Equations: Students will deepen their understanding of radical expressions and equations.
• Exponential and Logarithmic Functions: This unit will focus on the properties of exponential and logarithmic functions.
• Trigonometry: Students will explore trigonometric identities, functions, and equations.
• Quadratic Functions and Equations:
Students will review and extend their knowledge of quadratic functions, including vertex form, standard form, and factored form.

Materials needed:

  1. A 3-ring binder for handouts.
  2. A ruled notebook for Do Nows
  3. Pencils
  4. Chromebook as needed.

Classwork/Homework:

  • Classwork/Homework is assigned daily and will be checked during class (all work must be shown to receive credit).  Late work is not accepted for credit unless you are absent on the day that it is due.
  • You will be required to maintain a 3 ring binder for this class, which will include HW, daily notes, and any handouts that are distributed during the class period.  DO NOT THROW ANYTHING OUT. You can use all of this material to study for any assessments.

Make Up Work:

  • If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to get the notes (any missed handouts will be available when you return in the “Missed Work” bin).
  • If you are absent the day of a quiz or test you have 1 week to make it up. If you fail to do so you will receive a zero.

Extra help:
Extra help is always available. Please make arrangements if you have any problems and/or questions.
Clever also has Pear Deck Tutoring that is free to all students. (MAKE USE OF THIS) All lunch periods will have homework help by National Honor Society students starting around October. Please make use of all these wonderful opportunities.

Textbook:

The Big Ideas Algebra 2 textbook is available to all students online through the Clever portal.
